The Altar Destroyed | Nature or Nurture?

2 Samuel 24:25 – David built an altar to the Lord there and sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings.

A prominent picnic table in Roberts Park of Ruston, LA–one that gave us a place of self reflection and sacrifice during 2020–is no more.

The featured picture of ‘The Altar’ was taken back in July 2020. If you look closely at the shot, you can see a broken tablet on top. We came up with the idea that the table represented sacrifice, and it was given its name.

There’s plenty of space for walking around and enjoying nature in Roberts Park.

If we ever had a problem, we could ‘lay it on the altar.’ Make a conscious effort to do right by making sacrifices.

We hadn’t returned since the devastating Hurricane Laura took its toll on Ruston, LA, and we were in for a surprise when we did–The Altar has been radically altered. Here’s what we found:

Exodus 34:13 – Break down their altars, smash their sacred stones and cut down their Asherah poles.

Look carefully, and you’ll notice a tree fell, split another tree, and landed on The Altar. With precision aim, not one, but 2 large poles smashed the altar.

The Altar is destroyed.
