RL Cook Park Visit – December 6, 2020

After publishing our recent guide on Louisiana mushroom identification, we decided to revisit the parks of Ruston, LA to see what we could find. On a previous visit to RL Cook Park, we found a bounty of oyster mushrooms on a fallen log near the creek that runs around the area. Here’s what we came across on December 6, 2020:

We’re not so sure what either of these species are, but hopefully, we’ll learn more about them from experts in Louisiana. We recently joined the Wild Mushroom Hunting forum and plan to share our photos with others there to see if we can get some positive identifications.

Stay tuned as we continue our adventures and share our experiences in Ruston,LA. We”ll see you around!

  1. The top two mushroom photos appear to be a species of the Amanita genus. Although some of those species are edible, many are not and some are deadly!
