5 Reasons to Visit Driskill Mountain in 2021

At 535 feet above sea level, Driskill Mountain is the highest point of elevation in Louisiana. Despite negative word-of-mouth reviews, I took my first trip there in July 2020 and had a blast!

People told me Mount Driskill was “small” and “just a hill,” so I set my expectations low and was thrilled when I finally arrived and saw the adventure ahead. Sure, it’s no Mount Everest, but you should reserve judgement until after you’ve checked it out for yourself.

In this article, we’re going to look at the top 5 reasons to visit Driskill Mountain, and by the end, you’ll understand why I plan on returning sometime in the future. Don’t knock it til’ you climb it. Let’s take a look at Louisiana’s summit!

Why you’ll love Driskill Mountain

The experience

Regardless of size, Mount Driskill is an experience. It’s full of nature’s goodness, and if you have reasonable expectations, you won’t be disappointed by what you find. If you’ve never been, you owe it to yourself to check it out at least once, if for no other reason than to say you’ve done so.

Bird watching

Bird watchers can spot all types of species throughout the mountain’s wooded places. Feathered creatures are everywhere, and you can catch them gliding from branch to branch everywhere you turn. If you love learning about birds in Louisiana, you can spend hours observing them at Mount Driskill.

Photography

You’ll find beautiful nature shots your whole way up the mountain. It’s full of greenery and wildlife for practicing photography or making VR videos (see my video below). Bring your camera, and it’ll give you a lot more to do during your trip there.

Hiking

With several trails and 2 summits to explore, Driskill Mountain is an excellent place to hike. It’s not too difficult, so even beginners can make it up and down with no problems. There are several pathways you can take to each summit, so choose a route that suits your skill level for a hiking challenge!

The story

If you plan your trip right, you’ll have an excellent story to tell. In my case, I decided to go on Independence Day 2020, which also happened to be the day before my birthday. It was my first time visiting, and there were many others like me who were trying to spend time in nature while social distancing. Being in the outdoors during those early times of the pandemic gave me a sense of freedom, and a flag someone planted at the top really made that feeling sink in.

Final words

You’ll have your own story to tell after you visit Driskill Mountain. It’s an essential if you live nearby and worth it if you happen to be in the area.
