A wealthy man was traveling home when he came upon the tree of knowledge. The tree offered a piece of its fruit in exchange for the man’s darkest secret, and seeing no wrong in sharing a personal burden, he obliged. After disclosing details of his past, he partook of the fruit and became drunken with worldly wisdom.
Upon arriving home, he was surprised to find a guard ready to initiate his exile at the city gates. The city had confiscated all his riches and no longer welcomed him, as his darkest secret was now common knowledge.
