The winds and waves weather every castle built in sand.
“I’m sorry,” said Erik, as Jane began mending their broken sandcastle. The tide touched Jane’s feet as she looked up and said, “I’ve heard it all before.” He glared at her, she dropped her eyes, and the two made repairs in silence. Erik dug a trench to help the small sandy building withstand the tide while Jane patched up damage from sinkholes.
At last, it was rebuilt, and they looked up to meet one another. “I’m not sure what to do,” she said, shutting her eyes. A tear rolled down her cheek, and Erik wrapped his arms around her. “I know,” he said, burrowing into her shoulder, “but we have to do something.” The two stood up and brushed the sand from their bathing suits before hugging and exchanging a kiss. Locking hands, they decided it was time to leave their castle, and the tide slowly crept in as they walked away.
