Virtual entertainment has become an essential component of business models since the devastating pandemic hit in 2020. One such form is the virtual ghost tour, meant to showcase city locations while delivering tons of spooks you can enjoy from the comfort of your home.
We had the opportunity to watch a New Orleans Ghosts virtual tour courtesy of US Ghost Adventures and decided to give our review. With nothing but a laptop and a quiet location, we were able to traverse the streets of NOLA and learn about some of the creepiest hauntings happening today.
NOLA Ghosts
This review is spoiler free, so we won’t reveal any of the tour’s stories or surprises.
Admission fee: $13
Runtime: 01:46:10
The virtual ghost tour begins in Jackson Square of New Orleans with tour guide John Fawcett giving us an overview of the experience. He explains his History/English background gave him good reason to become a guide, and his history knowledge is evident as he presents background information and disturbing stories.
Initially, we wondered why the cameraman seemed stiff during the filming of the introduction, but it quickly became apparent the gig is a one man show. John guides us through the streets of NOLA while also doubling as the cameraman, adjusting to different angles and carrying the camera by himself. This means the camerawork can appear awkward at times, but he manages it well.
The tour begins during the heat of the day, and once it gets going, the camera issues are less noticeable. This is especially true when we walk to new locations, as it’s easy to get wrapped up in the New Orleans scenery. The historic buildings and walkways showcase extravagant architecture, and they’re a beauty to behold.
You’ll hear some grim stories during the virtual ghost tour that will make your skin crawl. The ghosts are fascinating, and some will make you afraid to turn the lights off at night. John explains that NOLA is filled with voodoo priestesses, vampires, and mediums, making the city a melting pot for the supernatural.
As the tour goes on, the sun goes down, and the spook factor rises. It eventually ends back where it started in Jackson Square, with John and his surroundings shrouded in the darkness of night.
Final thoughts
Overall, it’s a fun and insightful virtual ghost tour that takes you to some of the most haunted locations in New Orleans. John makes an excellent tour guide, and with a little more emotion in his storytelling, the stories would be even scarier. Regardless, you learn a lot of history and witness some interesting places. Places you may or may not want to visit after hearing about the ghosts which haunt them.
